Northwestern's Blackboard-based Course Management System offers an easy-to-use Web interface for you and your students to share information over the Northwestern network. The system eases the publishing of course materials, promotes active learning, aids recordkeeping and evaluations, and provides a venue for secure communications. Learn to build and manage a complete course on the Web. No Web publishing experience required. Feel free to bring digital copies of your course materials. There will be time to work on your CMS course site during this workshop. Our upcoming sessions are:

Depot: New Features

Northwestern University Information Technology (NUIT) Research & Academic Technologies (R&AT) will be implementing an upgrade to Depot, the Web-based document management tool for the University on Sunday, July 20, 2008, beginning at 10:00 a.m.and ending by 2:00 p.m. Depot will be unavailable to faculty, staff and students during the upgrade period. The upgrade will bring new features and enhanced functionality providing users with a more secure and efficient means of uploading and sharing files and documents.

Informal drop-in sessions will offer users a demonstration of the new interface, including such features as bookmarks and saved searches.

Clickers in Your Classroom Workshop

TurningPoint is an interactive student response system (SRS), which allows you to poll and assess your entire class in seconds, with the results immediately appearing in your PowerPoint presentation.

Schedule:
8:45 - 9:30 am Overview and Demonstration (coffee & bagels included) in the University Library Mac/PC lab
9:30 - noon Hands on work in the Library Mac/PC lab
Noon - 1:00 pm Lunch on your own
1:00 - 2:00 pm Q&A, TurningPoint for a Mac in the Mac/PC lab
2:00 - 4:00 pm Advanced uses of TurningPoint in the Library Mac/PC lab

In the morning, we will be teaching the basics of the TurningPoint software system, as well as how to use the hardware. Also, we will cover the best practices of TurningPoint in the classroom. In just a couple of hours, you will be ready to use the system in your class!

Lunch and discussions will be a time for networking, answering questions and looking at features including using TurnigPoint with Macintosh computers.

The afternoon will cover more advanced topics for those who have attended in the morning session or used clickers in the classrooms during the past school year. Bring your ideas and create or re-create a slide show for your course that uses SRS. To conclude, will share ideas and slideshows.
